We Had a Blast at the 2nd Annual Chefs vs. Surgeons Pumpkin Carving Contest!

Winner!  Dr. Thomas HolleyThe Pepper Place Saturday Market and St. Vincent’s Health System joined together once again to host the 2nd annual Chefs vs. Surgeons Pumpkin Carving Contest, and we are proud to say the 2012 event was a huge success!

The event showcased participating chefs and surgeons competing against each other to carve a pumpkin masterpiece in under 30 minutes, with the most creative pumpkin taking home the title.

Representing the surgeons were Dr. Thomas Holley, urologist at St. Vincent’s Birmingham, and Dr. Brenda Taylor, OB/GYN at St. Vincent’s Birmingham. Chef Cliff Holt with Little Savannah (the 2011 Chefs vs. Surgeons defending champion), and Chef Jeffrey Hansell with Veranda on Highland, represented the Chef division.

A panel of judges was used to determine the most creative pumpkin, which included: Scott Jones, president of Jones is Hungry, Chef-At-Large, Franklin Biggs and Ken Jackson, local businessman and philanthropist.

The contest winner, Dr. Holley, was sent home with a basket of local produce provided by Owls Hollow Farm, in addition to his reign as the 2012 Champ!
