Ride With Us This St. Patty’s Weekend

LUCKY YOU! The 2nd annual Birmingham HammerFest fueled is coming to Pepper Place this St. Patrick’s Day weekend. This FREE event is open to the public and taking place on Saturday, March 14th in Pepper Place. From 11am to 8pm, several bike criterium races will be taking place.

What is a bike criterium?

Essentially, it’s a bike race consisting of several laps around a closed circuit. In this case, cyclists will be circling 1st and 2nd Ave South as the zoom past Pepper Place. While all cycling lovers will take on the same loop, races are determined based on cyclists’ experience, ranging from amateur to professional riders, and even a kids’ heat. Professional teams from all over the United States will come to Birmingham to participate!

What is there to do besides watch the race?

This event truly offers something for all ages, featuring fun activities such as a kids zone, community hour, a lil shamrock fun ride, bicycle decorating, a dog parade, a best dressed contest with prizes, food trucks, and more! The Kids Zone will include inflatables, crafts, bike courses as well as bike and safety maintenance. Be sure to be there for the Community Hour at 4:15pm, which includes a party around the Leprechaun Loop. You can catch the professional riders in action at 5:05pm (women’s heat) and 6:30pm (men’s heat).

In addition to all of this cycling action, your favorite Pepper Place retailers will be open to keep the party in motion. Yellowhammer Print Shop will have Day Sol Coffee popping up in their space from 9am-12pm, and the Entertainment District will be in full effect starting at 10am – meaning you can grab a beverage to go from any of your favorite restaurants!
