At this year’s Birmingham ADDY Awards, Pepper Place tenant FRED Communication by Design took home the Silver Award in the category of Digital Publications–Campaign for its work on The Place magazine—a quarterly publication that highlights the news, tenants, and goings-on at Pepper Place. Senior Designer Michael Vizzina also took home a Gold in the Consumer Website category for his work on Southern Sky Aviation’s website.
With help from the Sloss Real Estate marketing team, the magazine is designed by FRED Creative Director Blayne Ward and written by copywriter Russell Hehn. Released four times a year, The Place takes a seasonal approach, focusing on the freshness of spring, the outdoor spirit of summer, the warm indoor stylings of fall, and the holiday season.
“Pepper Place is a really beloved spot for most folks in Birmingham, and it’s kind of incredible to see how much is going on in these couple blocks,” says Hehn. “For people who aren’t as familiar with Pepper Place—who might only come for the weekend Market—we want them to see that there’s something going on each and every day. There’s always a new dish to try, a new play to see, a new drink to taste. And in this small piece of Birmingham, there are dozens of really talented people doing all sorts of interesting things. It’s fun giving this place a platform.”
The next issue of The Place is set to come out in the middle of March, but there’s plenty in the archives to catch up on:
