The Birmingham Chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier—an international organization for women leaders in food, wine, and hospitality—will “take over” the chef demo at the Market at Pepper Place for the month of September. Every Saturday, household names like Kathy G., Idie Hastings, Becky Satterfield and Pardis Stitt will show market patrons how to make simple, fresh, in-season recipes and share free samples of the dish with the audience.

Chef demos will be held every Saturday, rain or shine, on 29th Street at 9AM sharp.

September 2nd, Les Dames members and culinary educators Susan Green and Sherron Goldstein will show how to make fattoush, a delicious Lebanese salad, to kick off the month-long celebration.

September 9th will be hosted by Kathy Mezrano of Kathy G. Catering and food stylist Jan Gautro.

September 16th will be hosted by Ashley Tarver of Za’atar Bar and Copper Pot Kitchen and food writer Christiana Roussel.

September 23rd will feature Juliette Flenoury, former chef of the Mountain Brook Club and Becky Satterfield of Satterfield’s Restaurant.

Brooke Bell of Hoffman Media and Mary Esther Carpenter of PFG Food will wrap up the “Market Takeover” on September 30th.

Assisting the Dames each week will be Daphne Jones, a culinary student at Jeff State Community College and recent recipient of a Les Dames scholarship.

Founded in 1976, Les Dames d’Escoffier has pursued a mission of education, advocacy, mentoring and philanthropy through hospitality and the culinary arts. The Birmingham chapter was founded in 2013 and continues to grow as more outstanding female chefs and food professionals emerge in the greater Birmingham area.
